Do Not Open ‘Til X-Mas

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring…except for the small poodle-like one nipping at my heels while I typed this post. Let’s just say that the holiday came early this year for my parents who got a brand new Bichon puppy. Granted, there wasn’t the same Christmas morning surprise factor but I guess Santa didn’t want to cram her in a stocking or take the effort to wrap her up in a box and place her under the tree. (Or perhaps Saint Nick is just getting lazy.)

I’m kidding. I know you can’t do either of those things with a puppy. However, you can wrap up a Nintendo Wii and put it under the tree. Not to mention a Wii doesn’t ruin the carpet, chew your socks or bark incessantly through the night. So if you’re listening Santa, and it’s not too late, I would prefer a Wii.

Well, I just wanted to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday! And I hope you get your puppy and/or Wii, depending on your personal preference.

Holiday "In"

Hey everyone, Christmas is almost upon us. I find that hard to believe because I’ve been busy these past few weeks. I’m sure most of us have been especially if you’ve been preparing for the holidays. Some of us are visiting family, while others are doing some last-minute shopping. Whatever your plans are, we each prepare in our own way; wrapping gifts, decorating, baking, etc.

If you find that the holiday cheer is replaced with the inevitable holiday stress don't turn to booze, stop by the site for a glimpse of my first seasonal installment of Inkspot. That's right, as the holiday ushers in I thought I'd post the first of my seasonal blogs. I plan on posting a few never-before-seen sketches of Saint Nick, snowmen, reindeer, etc. to celebrate the Christmas holiday. Be sure to check them out in your spare time.

"Will Draw For Food"

Recession. This is a word that strikes fear into the hearts and minds of people everywhere these days. It’s no surprise that I find myself writing about it, it’s all people can talk about. On one hand talking about it is a method for dealing with the current events. Seeing that others share your situation is oddly reassuring. On the other hand, it is depressing and scary. Not being in control of your circumstances often is.
It certainly has affected creative types who were likely struggling to begin with. I speak from personal experience. Until recently I was employed as a designer at an architectural firm. I watched as friends and colleagues lost their jobs knowing I was not immune to such circumstances however it truly wasn’t real until it happened to me. I told myself that things happen for a reason and that I need to make the most of this opportunity.
I’m passionate about the work I do, I take pride in it. Some may call me a workaholic but, of course, I feel it’s for all the right reasons. At the end of the day I have a feeling of accomplishment, of fulfillment. This allows me to invest myself whole-heartedly in what I do. The downside is that I often neglect my personal life, I forget to stop and smell the roses. That being said, I believe real value lies in the lessons to be learned from these circumstances.
If I’m lucky, what ultimately comes out of this experience is personal growth. As a start, I’m trying to make more of an effort to focus on what I’m passion about. This makes sense because I’m most happy doing what I love. Furthermore, it’s what’s kept me going through tough times…that, and a valued group of people who believe in my abilities. Let me underscore the importance of the latter. I can’t thank them enough for their unwavering support (You know who you are). They’ve encouraged me to pursue the things I love. In the long run, being passionate about what you do usually means you’ll be great at what you do, which leads to being successful at what you do. Just a theory, I guess time will tell.

Welcome to Inkspot

I recently created this blog as my personal outlet for my own artistic dabblings. It is representative of various work I've done over the years. I feel that sharing the work tends to validate it for me. Art is just another form of communication, ideas evolve through dialogue so it only makes sense to have it displayed in a forum that allows for just that. I am interested to hear what you think.
